When my daughter was about 3 or 4 years old she loved bugs. She liked to take a flashlight outside at night and hunt for spiders and other creatures under rocks. She liked to find Stink bugs and squeeze them to smell that rotten fruit smell they give off and stare out her bedroom window at bedtime to watch the fireflies light up in the woods.
This was also the summer she walked down to the beach with my Dad and I in the cold rain and laid down in the ocean letting the waves run over her whole body, face and all. She was fully dressed in pants and a raincoat. My father calls this time of her life, "before she was civilized".
These are great memories for me and so when I painted this footstool these are the thoughts I had in mind.
